Thuringian Dumplings

The Sunday Ritual

The Thuringian dumpling has a long tradition. The first known dumpling recipe written down on paper originated in the parish of Effelder near Sonneberg and dates from 1808. The dumplings were a Sunday ritual in Thuringia and often attracted the most attention on the dinner plate.

Enjoy Thuringian dumplings in their most beautiful variations at the restaurant "Zum Schwarzen Bären". As a starter you will be served the "Hüllerchen" (Thuringian dumplings) with bacon, for the main course with beef roulade or with roast pork. The deep-fried dumpling with mushroom and onion filling is available as a vegetarian alternative. The tasty menu is best finished off with the Thuringian herb liqueur "Aromatique".
